ITALY’S PERFETTO PIAZZAS

Italian piazzas are historic public squares in towns and cities across Italy. Surrounded by architecture, they embody the pulse of public life and feature bars, eateries, churches, town halls, decorative statues and fountains. Piazzas in Italy are the heart and soul of a local area; an outside living room where people go to socialise, shop, relax, eat, drink BIRRA MORETTI and watch the world go by.

The piazzas really come alive in the summer months, with people enjoying the sunshine during the day, and catching up with family and friends in the evenings.

ITALY’S MOST POPULAR PIAZZAS

Italy’s favourite piazzas each offer something unique, but also have one thing in common – they’re central to understanding local life, its rhythm, and its essence.

PIAZZA NAVONA IN ROME

Piazza Navona is one of the largest and most beautiful piazza squares in Rome boasting three monumental fountains, including Gian Lorenzo Bernini’s famous Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi (Fountain of the Four Rivers). You can also see the historic Churches of Sant’Agnese and Palazzo Braschi.

Piazza Navona is surrounded by lively restaurants and enticing shops, while street artists, painters and musicians add their own special touch to the atmosphere.

This is a piazza for people watching, a place to take a well-earned mid-afternoon break in one of many eateries . Enjoy a refreshing BIRRA MORETTI Zero along with Suppli - a popular snack in Rome - and watch the world go by.

PIAZZA DEL POPOLO IN ROME

Piazza Del Popolo features a historic Egyptian obelisk in its centre, as well as the mighty Porta del Popolo (historical city gate). Also located here is Santa Maria del Popolo, a basilica including two magnificent paintings by Caravaggio adorned with spectacular Renaissance decoration. The piazza is overlooked by the Santa Maria dei Miracoli and Santa Maria in Montesanto churches, and has three of the most beautiful fountains in Rome.

The stairs on the east side of the square give an impressive outlook of the piazza from Pincio Park, where many locals choose to enjoy an authentic Italian picnic while taking in the view.

PIAZZA DELLA SIGNORIA IN FLORENCE

This beckoning L-shaped piazza sits at the base of Florence’s towering townhall, Palazzo Vecchio. To the corner of Piazza della Signoria lies the Loggia dei Lanzi, an architectural masterpiece of wide arches that house some of the best open-air sculptures in Florence. The Piazza has always been a place where locals come together to spend their free time, to reflect on the world and enjoy the simple pleasure of a BIRRA MORETTI whilst basking in the surrounding historical beauty.

PIAZZA DEL DUOMO IN MILAN

This cobbled delight is busy and vibrant. It’s the pulsating core of the city and features one of Europe’s biggest gothic cathedrals – the Duomo. The shopping and luxury boutiques draw in the crowds, but Piazza del Duomo is also home to some of the highest-quality restaurants including Luini Panzerotti, a decades-old bakery selling authentic panzerotti turnovers.

The flagship La Rinascente shopping mall hosts many a selection of rooftop restaurants ideal for sharing a BIRRA MORETTI and a spot of alfresco dining, whilst soaking in the calming birds eye view of Piazza del Duomo.

PIAZZA DEL CAMPO IN SIENA

Regarded as one of Europe’s greatest medieval squares, Piazza del Campo is famous for its beauty, architecture and the Il Palio di Siena bareback horse race. Architectural marvels include the Cappella di Piazza chapel, and the evocative ancient marble Fonte Gaia water fountain.

Tuscany is famed for its slower pace, making Piazza del Campo a perfect spot to sit and relax after walking the romantic streets of Siena. Enjoy the cool shadows from the Palazzo Pubblico and Torre del Mangia (tower), as you admire the piazza’s tranquil beauty in the beautiful sunshine.

A TASTE OF ITALIAN PIAZZAS IN THE UK

The Piazzas of Italy have become influential across the world in creating places in community where people can come together. For a piazza experience closer to home, the West Yorkshire town of Halifax delivers a certain that charm found in Italy. The incredible stately buildings, imposing arches, beautiful sculptures and sand-coloured architecture offer a strikingly continental feel. The Grade I-listed Piece Hall and piazza act as a lively retail and social hub, with the surrounding heritage buildings living on as bars, shops, restaurants galleries and museums.

For us, a piazza is more than just a place. It’s an icon of community, bringing people together over the simple things - pausing time, gathering with friends al fresco and watching the world go by with a BIRRA MORETTI, perfectly fitting to the moment
